For years, Magento® has been the preferred platform for building medium- to high-volume eCommerce websites.
And since the eCommerce world is constantly evolving, Magento software has changed along with it. Those updates have come gradually as updates to the basic Magento 1.0 platform with the latest being Magento 1.9.2.2. But that all changed last year when Magento released a fully reworked version 2.

But converting is not without its considerations. For instance, advanced customization will need to be configured to work on Magento v2 and some third-party extensions may not be supported. Migrating these add-ons may involve considerable development time (and cost), and sites on versions lower than 1.9.x should be upgraded before any migration is attempted.
Real-time concerns when switching to Magento 2 result when your site is actively processing orders, any glitches could cause you to lose them. That’s why it’s important to build and test the site separately before making the transition. On the other hand, if you are building a new site from scratch, doing it in Version 2 is probably the way to go. It has been tested sufficiently to be confident in its stability, so building in V2 lets you take advantage of its improved features immediately.
